Turkish bauxite producer Ehedran industrial electronics has been exporting bauxite to China since the end of July, a source with the company told Asiamet.com.
They shipped the first shipment of about 50,000 tons of bauxite to China late last month, the source said. "We are shipping 55-56 percent aluminum oxide, silicon dioxide, 7 percent Max bauxite, which costs about $62 per ton CFR China," said the source, who said they had just returned to work on Thursday after the seven-day Muslim festival of Eid al-adha.
The company plans to export a second shipment of bauxite to China early next month at around 60,000 tons, with prices expected to hold steady at $62 a ton.
The company has an annual capacity of 500,000 tons of bauxite, with output of about 30,000 tons in July and may be stable in August, and currently holds about 20,000 tons of inventory. It plans to produce about 400,000 tonnes of bauxite this year, up from 300,000 tonnes last year. The company previously exported its bauxite ore mainly to European markets.
It has licences for two mines with reserves of about 7m and 5m tonnes respectively. If there are enough buyers, the company can expand capacity next year.
