Japan has conveyed to the United States its intention to provide robots and related technology for the dismantling of north Korea's nuclear facilities, a number of Japanese government sources said on Tuesday.

Japan is willing to provide Japanese-made robots and related technologies used in the decommissioning of reactors at Tokyo electric power co. 's Fukushima Daiichi nuclear power plant for the dismantling of north Korea's nuclear facilities, Japanese media reported, citing sources.US President Donald trump is considering continuing denuclearization talks with the democratic People's Republic of Korea (DPRK), despite the DPRK's launch of a short-range missile Tuesday. Previous working-level talks between the us and north Korea focused on the decommissioning of related nuclear facilities such as the graphite-moderated reactor at Yongbyon in the north west. The Japanese government believes that if north Korea agrees to disarm, Japan could use its technological capabilities to dismantle reactors and uranium enrichment facilities outside of nuclear weapons.

Sources stressed that under the circumstance that the us and the DPRK push forward the denuclearization talks, the Japanese side intends to show its willingness to contribute to the denuclearization.

Sources said that at the beginning of this year, not long before the second DPRK-US summit meeting, the two governments held working-level consultations on the denuclearization of the DPRK. At the meeting, the United States pointed out that due to the inadequate management of nuclear materials at north Korea's nuclear facilities, there may be nuclear pollution in the surrounding areas. In response, Japan said it would "spare no effort to provide all kinds of support" and expressed its willingness to provide technical assistance for the denuclearization of north Korea. (From CNNPN)
